Several EU countries are scaling integrated programs that combine intensive sectorspecific language training with short workplace placements, mentoring and jobmatching services. Often cofinanced by national and EU funds and run in partnership with NGOs and employers, these programs align curricula to immediate labourmarket needs in hospitality, care, logistics and construction.
Pilot results indicate that combining language instruction with onthejob training significantly increases employability and retention: trainees acquire sector vocabulary and workplace norms while employers receive pretested candidates. Mentorship schemes further reduce early turnover by helping newcomers navigate administrative and cultural challenges. Programs also include streamlined recognition mechanisms for informal experience and targeted bridging courses that close specific skills gaps. Regions with active employer partnerships report faster placements and higher satisfaction, suggesting the model is scalable where sustained funding and employer buyin exist.
The combined approach shortens the pathway to stable employment, reduces recruitment risks for businesses and supports social and economic integration of migrants in host communities.
